Back in 1972 Jack Hawkins, a coach with a vision, created Be the Best, a clinic where baseball and softball coaches gather annually to interact with, learn from and get to know some of the greatest in the game.
Each year, Be the Best attracts approximately 2,000 attendees who are interested in honing the craft of coaching. Coaches representing age groups from Little League through college participate in the clinic that includes former pro baseball players and managers, decorated Olympian athletes, college and university coaches and other credible professionals from the worlds of baseball and softball. Guest speakers cover topics on everything from how to build a championship program and create a team culture to pitching mechanics and effective practice drills.
After 42 years, Jack Hawkins sold what is now the longest-running baseball and softball clinic in the country, to Greg and Dan Allen of Bergen County. The entrepreneur brothers, who co-founded Bader Field Sports, LLC, recognized Be the Best to be the perfect lead-off in pursuing their dream of transforming Atlantic City into a world-class sports destination.
In January 2016, Be the Best moved its home base from Cherry Hill to Atlantic City to a bigger, better and more contemporary venue. Harrah’s brand-new Waterfront Conference Center allowed softball and baseball to be combined into one convention which greatly enhanced the power of the program, adding more excitement, energy and fun to the event.
Due to break ground later in the near future, the Bader Field redevelopment plan will turn a 142-acre, former municipal airport in the heart of Atlantic City into Bader Field Sports Complex. The complex will consist of 20 fields accommodating baseball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer as well as indoor facilities for basketball, volleyball and year-round events.
By building off the insights of the ever-popular Jack Hawkins in the exciting Atlantic City location, Be the Best Baseball and Softball convention takes coaches to a whole new level!
